Jefferson Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Kathleen D. Sinel, Ph.D., of Schenectady, New York, to the position of Vice President for Administration and Finance. Dr. Sinel comes to Jefferson with nearly 30 years in higher education, most recently at Genesee Community College in Batavia and the College of Saint Rose in Albany.
As Vice President for Administration and Finance, chief fiscal officer, and treasurer of the College, Dr. Sinel will oversee business affairs, fiscal operations, human resources, facilities operations, campus safety and security, and risk management at Jefferson. In this position, Dr. Sinel will lead Jefferson’s long range facilities master planning and work with federal, state, and local authorities to ensure compliance and accountability.
Dr. Sinel brings extensive experience in financial and strategic planning, facilities management, human resources, institutional policy development, and capital project planning. Since 2004, Dr. Sinel has served as chief executive officer of SKS Management Group, LLC, a consultant group formed to assist educational and other non-profit groups with financial and strategic planning and implementation. She has also recently served as Vice President of Finance and Operations at Genesee Community College, where she was responsible for a $35 million budget. From 1994–2004, Dr. Sinel managed 180 employees, a physical plant of 81 buildings, and an operational budget in excess of $80 million as the Vice President for Finance and Administration at the College of Saint Rose in Albany. During her tenure at the College of Saint Rose, Dr. Sinel served as chief negotiator for the union contract, worked with investment managers to increase the College’s endowment by 65% over a 3-year period, and implemented a $60 million financial/capital plan. Dr. Sinel has also taught classes as an adjunct instructor in graduate business programs at the College of Saint Rose, Jones International University in Colorado, and Cardinal Stritch University in Wisconsin.
In her community, Dr. Sinel serves on several local boards and is a member of Rotary International, the local chamber of commerce, and the Hudson Mohawk Consortium of Colleges. She belongs to numerous professional organizations, including the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR).
Dr. Sinel holds both a bachelor of science degree in business administration and a master of science degree in career and human resource development from Rochester Institute of Technology, as well as a doctor of philosophy in administration/management from Walden University in Minnesota.
Dr. Sinel will join Jefferson on January 4, 2010.
