A public reception and writers contest reading will be held Thursday, October 29th at 7:00 p.m. in the Walker Instructional Dining Room, Jules Center, at Jefferson Community College (JCC) to recognize the winners of the 2009 North Country Writers Contest. In August, the JCC English department sought entries for short fiction, essay/nonfiction and poetry.
The 2009 North Country Writers Contest winners are:

Margaret S. Bartley, of New Russia, received honorable mention for her short fiction entry, “Uneasy Money.” Pamela V. Thacher, of Canton, received honorable mention for her essay, “How It Starts.” David F. Butler, of Canton, was awarded honorable mention of his poetry entry, “Wonderland.”
Winning writers were awarded $100 while those receiving honorable mention were awarded $25. Both winning and honorable mention submissions have been published online. All six contestants are invited to read their winning entry at the Writers Contest Reading and reception.
The Writers Contest Reading and reception are part of a week-long Writers Festival at JCC beginning Monday, October 26 through Friday, October 30. The public is invited to participate in the following Writers Festival events:
