JCC Community Orchestra/Wind Ensemble Performs May 9

The Community Orchestra and Wind Ensemble at Jefferson Community College will perform its annual Spring Concert for the community at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2008 in the Sturtz Theater at Jefferson Community College. The concert is free and open to the public.

The orchestra and wind ensemble are comprised of forty-two area musicians and community members of all ages, from teenagers to seniors.

Among the musical selections to be performed under the baton of conductor Donald R. Johnson are The Star Spangled Banner by John S. Smith and Caravelle Overture by Robert Washburn.

The String Ensemble will perform Concerto in D by Antonio Vivaldi and arranged by Jim Higgins.

The Wind Ensemble’s selections will include Nobles of the Mystic Shrine by John Phillip Sousa and arranged by Jack Bullock and The Symphonic Gershwin (An American in Paris, Rhapsody in Blue, Cuban Overture) by George Gershwin and arranged by Warren Barker.

Mr. Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Florida State University’s School of Music and a Master of Science degree in adult education from Elmira College. Mr. Johnson serves as Jefferson Community College's Director of Military Programs at Fort Drum.
