Orchestra of Northern New York performs at JCC on March 14

The Orchestra of Northern New York returns to Sturtz Theater at Jefferson Community College (JCC) with performance “Symphonic Discovery – A Journey through the Instruments of the Orchestra” on Friday, March 14 at 7:00 p.m.

“Symphonic Discovery – A Journey through the Instruments of the Orchestra” is a wonderful concert for children and families alike, filled with magical variations of tone, volume and color only available with a full symphony orchestra. The concert features North Country Public Radio (NCPR) radio host Todd Moe and a solo appearance of the 2008 James and Katherine Andrews Young Artist Instrumental Competition winner. Also featured will be Copland’s Hoedown from the ballet Rodeo and Burbaker/Williams music from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

The Orchestra of Northern New York, now in its 20th season, was founded in 1988 by music director and conductor Kenneth Andrews. Its mission is to improve the quality of life in Northern New York and Southern Ontario through live performances of orchestra music performed by musicians in a professional setting. It is the only professional symphony orchestra based in the North Country and was honored with the “Why I Love New York” award by former First Lady, Libby Pataki.

The Orchestra consists of over 60 professional musicians from Northern New York, Montreal, Ottawa, New York City, New England and a select group of accomplished Crane School of Music (SUNY Potsdam) students.

Tickets for the performance are $5 for JCC students; $7 for senior citizens, military, alumni and children; and $9 for the general public. Tickets may be purchased from the JCC student activities center, room 4-100, McVean Student Center, or by calling 315-786-2431. Advanced ticket sales are recommended!
