Parents - look no further for something to do with the kids during winter break! Get in rhythm, catch the beat and enjoy the sounds of Wacheva, a West African Dance and Drum Troupe, at Jefferson Community College (JCC) on Tuesday, February 19 at 1:00 p.m. in Sturtz Theater.
Wacheva gives a dynamic and energetic performance that includes West African dancing, drumming and folklore. They incorporate many different dance styles into each production including African, jazz, ballet, salsa, yoga, and capoeria- a mix of martial arts and acrobatics. Wacheva is recognized internationally as the first manifestation of African culture. The performance at JCC will feature dance, drums and narration relating the cultural significance of these activities.
In 1994, Biboti Ouikahilo created Wacheva while still living in Ivory Coast, West Africa. In 2003, Mr. Ouikahilo brought Wacheva to Syracuse, where he combined his dreams and visions with those of Syracuse native, Jill Finochio. Today, Mr. Ouikahilo and Ms. Finochio have created Wacheva Cultural Arts in Central New York uniting their different cultures from across the world for the success of the arts.
Tickets for the performance are $5 and may be purchased from the JCC student activities center, room 4-100, or by calling 315-786-2431. Advanced ticket sales are recommended!
