Jefferson Community College (JCC) will hold a youth coaching certification class on Wednesday, May 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Jules Center, Room 6-101. The youth coaching certification is issued by the State University of New York (SUNY) Youth Sports Institute and is taught by JCC athletic director Jeffrey L. Wiley and Mark C. Streiff, assistant professor of physical education and athletic trainer at JCC.
The youth coaching certification class is a three-hour comprehensive, curriculum based class delivered in easy to understand modules. Topics include character education in youth sports, youth coach as a teacher, organization and communication, development of young athletes, sports psychology, know when competition counts and when it doesn’t, reducing risk in a youth sports program, recognizing and managing youth sports injuries, and creating an emergency action plan.
Attendees will be eligible for a quarterly Youth Sports NY newsletter, password access to sport specific video drills and content, live web communication to ask questions of coaches across New York State, research for coaching insights, annual certification update at a reduced price, and registration in the statewide database of SUNY Certified Coaches.
