Jefferson Community College is now accepting applications for its STAR (Strategies to Achieve Results) Summer Bridge Program beginning July 6th and running through August 13th. Participants meet Monday thru Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Summer Bridge is designed to give new incoming students the opportunity to bridge the gap between current academic abilities and college level coursework. Students who placed into Reading 099 or English 099 will benefit from this summer experience by building up their reading and writing skills and getting that important step ahead before the load of a rigorous, fast paced semester begins. Additionally, students will familiarize themselves with the college campus and meet other students. The course work is free! The only cost is for the text book.
The Summer Bridge program consists of classroom lecture; participation in Math, Information and Computer Literacy; Career Exploration; College Readiness Workshops and field trips. Need-based scholarships will be available to students who complete the program.
To be eligible for the Summer Bridge program, students must be accepted to JCC and enrolled in a degree program; be in need of academic support; be a United States citizen, permanent resident or naturalized citizen; and meet one of the following criteria: be a first generation student (neither parent nor guardian has earned a bachelor’s degree), have a documented disability, or be a low-income student.
As a participant of the Summer Bridge program, students will receive full ongoing STAR program services.

The STAR program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education TRIO grant.
