Sheree Trainham

One Writer’s History

A comma Nazi sortied in his head,
a demagogue of imperial caste
invading the life blood of his pen
extolling virtue in paper waste.

The fascist foe assaulted every thought
with barrage of words, relentless plight ---
concepts mown down as at Omaha,
cruel critiquing throughout the night.

A reckoning at dawn compiled
the carnage of distempered rules,
perfectly dead elements of style,
good for naught but a life entombed –

Or perhaps, for tomes yet wrought; honor
restored by courage at the front?
