Jefferson Community College offices will close Wednesday, November 25 at 3:00 p.m. and will re-open Monday, November 30 at 9:00 a.m. in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

New Student Services, Orientation, Transition and Retention

CORE (Campus Orientation and Registration Educators)

Jefferson Community College’s CORE program is the orientation, transition and retention programs offered for all new and incoming students.  Our special orientation provides most of the information you will need to know about Jefferson as you transition to the campus. Furthermore, the Learning and Success Center (LSC) assists with and facilitates activities for new and transfer students and their families. These events include:

  • New student orientation days
  • Transitional events such as Welcome Week, Midterm Parties and reminders of important college dates
  • Retention based phone and portal survey outreach
  • Organization and staffing of events
  • Family Newsletter

If you are interested in becoming a member of our student leadership team that runs these programs, fondly referred to as the CORE Student Staff, stop in the Learning and Success Center to complete an application or download the application and mail it to:

Transition to College Life

The New Student Services (NSS) goal is to help new students experience a seamless transition to college life. NSS provides information and resources to guide you on your path to pursuing your educational and career goals. New Student Services provides the following:

  • Placement testing in reading comprehension, sentence skills and math
  • Orientation for new students
  • In-depth Campus Tours
  • Academic Coaching
  • Tutoring Referrals

Retention Services

Our Retention Services strive to ensure that all new students attending Jefferson Community College maintain good academic standing and continue to pursue their educational goals. Retention Services include:

Activities and Programs

New Student Services and Retention provide support to students so they can excel both academically and socially. Although our primary focus is on academics, we help students grow and develop by providing them with college programs, activities and other extra- curricular experiences.  Some examples of special events offered for students include:
