Title: Dean for Continuing Education
Reports to: Vice President for Academic Affairs
Type of Appointment: Management Confidential (12 months)


  • Master’s degree
  • Evidence of a thorough understanding of community colleges
  • Successful experience interacting with businesses, non-profit agencies or governmental entities
  • A minimum of five years of leadership experience
  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated track record of collaboration leading to results

General Functions

The Dean for Continuing Education oversees all non-credit offerings, contract training, off campus credit programs (Fort Drum Annex, Dual Enrollment in high schools, Prison programs), the Jefferson Higher Education Center  as well as representing the College in the community and performing outreach collaborations for the College President.   The candidate will be experienced in working with businesses, outside non-profit agencies and governmental entities. 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for, and management of, the Continuing Education Division, its staff, budget, programs, and curricula
  • Oversee all academic and operational parameters of the Annex at Fort Drum
  • Oversee off-campus business and industry training
  • Foster an entrepreneurial approach to the Division’s operations
  • Serves as a member of the Academic Senior Management team
  • Participates in campus-based strategic planning
  • Works as a liaison for the College in the community as requested by the College President or Vice President for Academic Affairs
  • Participates in College, community, and professional service
  • Oversees and manages the JHEC center on campus
  • Prepares performance evaluations and related personnel actions for staff in the division
  • Oversees and coordinates the EDGE Program for the College as well as its accreditation
  • Manages the division budget
  • Facilitates development and implementation of divisional goals
  • Serves on the President’s Cabinet, the Academic Council, and the Budget Review Committee
  • Serves on various committees and Boards in a local and State Capacity
  • Other duties as assigned
