Title:                        Director of Student Activities and Inclusion
Reposts to:            Dean of Students Type of Appointment Grade 5, 12-months

Qualifications:       Bachelor’s Degree and 6 years appropriate professional experience
                                                                                   OR
                                  Master’s Degree and 4 years appropriate professional experience

Preferred: Specialization in student activities; demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population; higher education experience.

1. General Functions:

The Director of Student Activities and Inclusion provides oversight and management of the College’s student engagement through activities. The Director supervises part-time, and student staff, manages multiple budgets, and shapes a comprehensive and engaging educational program for student activities, and the full array of student organizations. The Director is a member of the senior management team within the Enrollment Management.

2. Specific Responsibilities:

Supervision

  • Coordinate hiring, training, supervising and evaluating part-time staff, student employees, and campus activity board members.
  • Monitor bi-weekly staff wages and budget allocation for wages of multiple student staff members.
  • Directly supervise the Campus Activity Board.
  • Supervise the College Chaplin.

Diversity and Inclusion

  • Serve as the liaison for student diversity and inclusion activities throughout the campus.
  • In collaboration with campus and community partners, develop a portfolio of annual programs that increase awareness of and educate students about diversity and inclusion.
  • Work with relevant student organizations in support of campus-wide multicultural programming ventures.
  • Develop and implement signature events centered on diversity and inclusion.
  • Develop and promote programs that support historically underrepresented student groups on campus.

Event Management

  • Supervise, maintain and develop the Student Activities Calendar of Events.
  • Accountable for overall planning, policy development, recruitment activities, and implementation of activities for student activities office.

  • Collaborate with faculty, staff and students on events that meet the mission, social and personal growth goals of the institution.
  • Create and manage materials that promote student activities and events.
  • Plan, execute, and manage special events, such as recognition ceremonies.

Registered Student Organizations

  • Responsible for overseeing the advisement of recognized student clubs, organizations and committees; coordinate official communications.
  • Support, manage, recruit and oversee an effective team of recognized student club and organization advisors with regular training and on-going guidance for the effective management of student leaders and members.
  • Work with recognized student clubs and organizations advisors in their oversight and development of student group programs, activities, and events.
  • Provide additional support for signature campus organizations (i.e. Cannon newspaper, theatre production).

Administrative

  • Create, Oversee, and Manage the Student Activities operating budget.
  • Maintain overall financial operation of the campus activities board, and student association accounts according to established policies and budget under the guidance and oversight of the Dean of Students.
  • Supervise and manage point of sale system for the office.
  • Act as a judicial officer upon request.
  • Attend bi-monthly office, department and campus meetings.
  • Serve on appropriate student, staff and community committees, providing a student perspective.
  • Manage and assist with Student Life programs, events, and activities as assigned.
  • Create, update, and review college policies related to Student Activities.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive assessment program.
  • Other duties, projects, and tasks as assigned.
