Sustainability at Jefferson Community College

Sustainability

Sustainability is a core value of the Jefferson Community College Mission. We use resources in responsible ways to achieve balance among our economic, environmental, and social practices and policies.

In 2012, Jefferson president Carole McCoy proudly signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). The ACUPCC is an effort to address global climate disruption undertaken by a network of colleges and universities that have made institutional commitments to accelerate progress towards climate neutrality and sustainability. We have developed a Climate Neutrality Plan which is posted on the ACUPCC website:

On campus, efforts include educating the campus community, modeling sustainable practices while providing hands-on learning for our students.

EverGREEN Committee

The EverGREEN Committee serves the College by promoting sustainability practices and awareness.  The committee, comprised of Jefferson faculty and staff, meets three times per semester and sponsors special events such as Earth Week, Arbor Day, and the Spring Tree Seedling Sale.

GREEN Club

The student GREEN Club meets monthly and has a key role in assisting with the College’s Earth Week, Arbor Day, and Tree Seedling Sale programs. There are five Officer positions including that of President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Student Government Association (SGA) Representative. The GREEN Club Mission is as follows:

Will act as the student voice and guiding force behind sustainability awareness and issues that arise on campus and in the community. Through education, and outdoor activities we will help support the progress of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment with the goal to help reduce the carbon footprint of Jefferson Community College.
