Tutoring

The Scanlon Tutoring Center, in Room 5-101 of the Melvil Dewey Library Building, provides free face-to-face, small group and online tutoring to all full- and part-time JCC students, by appointment and on a walk-in basis. Please call 315-786-2321 to schedule an appointment over the phone.

Detailed information about services, tutor availability, and walk-in lab schedules are available on Blackboard. Writing, Math, and Study Skills resources are also available.

The Scanlon Tutoring Center pursues learning excellence by asking that:

Tutors…

  • be knowledgeable in their tutoring discipline or subject
  • be respectful and civil
  • be prompt and prepared for tutoring sessions
  • be open-minded and capable of meeting the needs of a diversity of learners
  • maintain student confidentiality

Students…

  • be willing to make and keep appointments
  • be able to civilly interact with tutors, Scanlon Tutoring Center staff, and other students
  • be willing to accept feedback and to reach compromises about what can be reasonably accomplished
  • be open-minded and ready to learn
  • be ready to ask questions and bring appropriate materials to work
  • expect to do their work and not expect tutors to do work for them

Online Tutoring

The Jefferson professional tutor staff also offer tutoring through Collaborate, an online web-conferencing. Remember to plan ahead of your assignment due dates when making an appointment!
