Spring Commencement for May/Summer Graduates

All potential graduates are required to submit an Application for Degree/Certificate to the Student Records Office, Room 6-024 by April 6, 2018 for the spring graduation.

To submit the form online, log in to myJCC and click on Quick Links at the top. Under Student Records, click on Apply to Graduate and complete the form.

Caps and gowns may be picked up beginning April 30, 2018 in the JCC Bookstore (315-786-2260).  The cost of your cap and gown is included in your student life fee.  

There is no need to pre-order your cap and gown, however students who want to participate in the Commencement Ceremony must pick up their cap & gown by Monday, May 14, 2018.


Guest Ticket Pick-Up: Commencement participants will receive up to four (4) guest tickets when picking up cap and gown from the JCC Bookstore between April 30 and May 14, 2018. You must be participating in the ceremony to receive guest tickets.  Please note: A ticket is required to enter commencement ceremonies in the gymnasium. All children (including infants) must have a ticket. Tickets will be collected by the ushers, but will be made available following the ceremony to keep as souvenirs. 

Sturtz Theater Seating – Tickets NOT Required: The Commencement Ceremony will be broadcast via closed circuit telecast in the Sturtz Theater (room 4-111) in the McVean Student Center. The theater is air-conditioned and offers seating that may be preferable to those who have difficulty climbing bleachers. Guest tickets are not required for theater admittance.


Senior Send-Off, a free luncheon for graduates, begins at 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Jules Center Commons.


Rehearsal for all participants begins at 12:30 p.m. in the McVean Student Center Gymnasium. Please be prompt. The Marshals will give all instructions for Commencement Ceremony.


Children and infants attending the ceremony must have a ticket and be accompanied by an adult. Strollers are not permitted in the gymnasium.

Jefferson Campus Care will provide free childcare during the Commencement Ceremony and Reception (6:15 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.) for children of both participants and their guests. Children must be aged 18 months – 12 years old. Registration is required. Please contact Jefferson Campus Care at 786-2357 by 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 to register. 


Students: All participants should be robed and lined up on the Quad, as instructed at rehearsal, by 6:30 p.m.  Graduates may pick up their "line-up card" from faculty at the tables located between the Gregor Building (#5) and Jules Center (#6). Robing assistance will be available outside the Gregor Building (#5) lobby and outside the Dulles Building (#3) lobby.  Should weather force the processional to line-up inside, updated information will be posted here.

Guests: Guest entrance doors (adjacent to Parking Lot D) will open at 6:30 p.m. Handicapped /special needs guests may disembark at this entrance. Guest seating is available in the bleachers; the first two rows are reserved for special needs attendees. Guest tickets (for adults and children) must be presented to enter the gymnasium.  Strollers are not permitted in the gymnasium.


Reserved seating for those needing special accommodations (i.e. difficulty with stairs, use of wheelchair or walkers) can be requested. The graduating student must stop in the Bookstore to complete an accommodative needs seating request form.  It is important that the form is completed and submitted prior to May 11, 2018 so that the College may easily accommodate all requests.


Flowers will be available for purchase at the Commencement Ceremony or can be pre-ordered by clicking the following link: Flowers should be presented after the ceremony is concluded; participants should not carry flowers in the processional.

A commemorative Jefferson Community College Class of 2018 t-shirt with the names of graduates on the back will be available for purchase ($25) at the commencement ceremony or can be pre-ordered by clicking on the following link:


Professional Photos: A professional photographer will be at Commencement to photograph all participants as they cross the stage and receive their credentials. Proofs of the photos will be available online 2-3 days after the ceremony at and also mailed to graduates.  You may place an order IF YOU SO CHOOSE. You are under no obligation to purchase photos taken at Commencement. Photo Room:  The College has added an official photo room to commencement festivities for all families and friends that want to take personal pictures after the ceremony. Located in the Walker Instructional Dining Room, directly across from the Bookstore, we will welcome graduates, friends and families to have their picture taken and we will have staff on hand to help by taking the pictures for you.


Jefferson will videostream the College's Commencement exercises via The link will be available on the College's homepage at 6:45 p.m.


A video of Jefferson's entire May Commencement Ceremony will be available in segments for free on YouTube (SUNY Jefferson channel). A DVD of Jefferson’s May Commencement Ceremony will also be available for purchase ($10) by calling the Bookstore at 315-786-2260.


Guests are asked to remain seated until the entire academic procession has exited.

Guests can meet their graduates in the Jules Center Commons for a reception following the ceremony.  Upon exiting the gym, guests can turn right and enter the Commons by the canopied entrance.  For those in the Sturtz Theater, please turn right upon exiting go through the Student Lounge and take the stairs (or elevator) down one floor to the Commons.

The JCC Bookstore (in the Jules Center), will be open on the evening of commencement from 6:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.


Honor your graduate and his or her achievements by leaving a unique gift of an engraved paver on campus! Engraved pavers are placed at the center of Jefferson's campus, in the area surrounding the Haas Clocktower, where they will be enjoyed for years to come by our students and their families, faculty and community members. Your gift will also help the JCC Foundation continue its mission of supporting student scholarships and campus initiatives. Reserve your paver online. Only diploma covers will be handed out at Commencement. Diplomas are mailed mid–June following a graduation audit of your records.
