Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society

Jefferson’s Tau Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is a prestigious international honor society which seeks to recognize academic excellence in two-year colleges. Scholarships, leadership, service and fellowship are the hallmarks of PTK.  Providing opportunities for an intellectual climate for the interchange of ideas, for a fellowship for scholars and for the importance in continuing academic excellence.

Eligibility

Membership for PTK is by invitation only and will be extended based on the following:

  • Enrollment in a degree program
  • Completed twelve credit hours of college level course work
  • Cumulative grade point average of a minimum 3.50

Eligibility is also contingent upon enrollment at JCC during the invited semester and completion of the orientation and application process by the stated deadlines.

Benefits of Membership

The benefits of becoming a PTK member are numerous and include:

  • Over $36 million in transfer scholarships available to PTK students
  • Privilege of wearing Honors Stole at graduation ceremony
  • “Phi Theta Kappa Member” printed on JCC transcripts

Types of Membership

There are two types of membership options for students: Regular or Enhanced.

  1. Enhanced membership encourages participation in JCC’s Tau Xi Chapter activities. The chapter meets regularly to promote membership, encourage scholarship, advocate leadership, engage in fellowship and provide service to the community.
  2. As a PTK member you may decide not to participate in chapter activities; recognizing that many of our members are busy with jobs, school and families and for them, a regular membership is the appropriate option.
