Student Housing Frequently Asked Questions

When will Jefferson’s new student housing open?
Jefferson’s new student housing complex, East Hall, will be open in August 2014. Just in time for the Fall 2014 semester.

When can I apply for student housing?
You can apply in now! You must be planning to attend full-time and be enrolled in a degree program (matriculated). If you are new to Jefferson for Fall 2014, you must apply for Admission first and then complete the housing application. Current students continuing in the fall need only to complete the housing application.

What is the cost for student housing?
The cost of housing is $6500 annually or $3250 per semester for a double. Singles are $7600 annually or $3800 per semester.

What is the meal plan cost and options?
All students living in East Hall will be required to purchase a minimum meal plan at a cost of $1550 per semester which includes unlimited, all-you-care-to-eat access to The Courtyard. This is the on-campus dining facility located in the McVean Student Center. Additional meal plan options are available for residence students.

Is a deposit required?
An annual $250 deposit is required to reserve your space in the residence hall. The deposit is refundable only if housing is not offered.

Can financial aid be used to cover the cost of student housing?
Yes.  In addition to tuition and fees, most types of Financial Aid can be used to cover living expenses including campus housing and meal plans. Jefferson’s Financial Services office will notify you of your eligibility for aid after review of your application.

What type of activities will be offered?
In addition to programming offered directly within the residence hall, Jefferson's Student Activities Center offers a wide variety of activities and events for all students.

Can I bring my car?
There will be a limited number of parking spaces for residence students. Students must register their vehicles with Campus Safety & Security.

Can I request a roommate?
Yes.  When you complete the Student Housing Application, there is an option to request a roommate.  Although there are no guarantees, we will honor as many requests as we can based on review of current applications and criteria.  Please note – in order to be assigned a roommate, both parties, at a minimum, must have a completed application and deposit on file.

How will housing accommodations be determined?
For the 2014-2015 academic year, housing will be available on a first-come basis. A waiting list will be developed for students who sign up after East Hall reaches capacity.

How big is the student housing building?
East Hall will accommodate 294 students, eight of whom will be resident assistants.

How many people are in each room?
Jefferson’s modern residence hall format accommodates 3-6 students per unit, with students living in single or shared bedrooms.

Are the residential units furnished?
Yes, each living area is fully furnished.

What type of bed sheets will I need for East Hall?
East Hall bed mattresses are designed for Twin Extra Long Mattress bedding sheets. They are commonly referred to as twin XL, TXL, extended twin or extra long twin sheets.

Are cable TV and Internet included in the total cost?
Wireless high-speed Internet and cable television connections are included in the room cost.

What other facilities are located in the student housing complex?
In addition to suites, the East Hall will include classrooms, as well as laundry rooms and student lounges on each floor.  The charge to use washers/dryers is included in the room cost.

What kind of staff will be in the building?
The residence hall will have 2 live in residence life directors and 8 student resident assistants.

Are pets allowed?
There are no pets of any kind allowed in the residence hall with the exception of service animals.

Are my spouse or child able to live with me?
East Hall will be for full time, matriculated Jefferson students; no families or children.
