Cap & Gown Pickup
Commencement participants may pick up their caps and gowns at the JCC Bookstore in the Jules Center beginning Monday, May 10. The bookstore will be open Monday–Thursday from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. and on Fridays from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. On Friday, May 21, the bookstore will be open from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. and from 6 p.m.–10 p.m.
Tickets
Guest Ticket Pickup
Each commencement participant will receive up to four (4) guest tickets when picking up their cap and gown from the JCC Bookstore. You must be participating in the ceremony to receive guest tickets. There is a Commencement Ticket Swap on Blackboard (under Community) for those with extra tickets to communicate with those seeking additional tickets.
Sturtz Theater Seating—Tickets Not Required
The Commencement Ceremony will be shown via closed circuit telecast in the Sturtz Theater (room 4-111) in the McVean Student Center. The theater is air-conditioned and offers seating that may be preferable for those who have difficulty climbing bleachers. Guest tickets are not required for theater admittance.
Senior Send-Off & Commencement Rehearsal: Friday, May 21
Senior Send-Off, a free luncheon for graduates, begins at 11:00 a.m. in the Courtyard Cafeteria. Commencement rehearsal for all participants begins at 12:30 p.m. in the McVean Student Center Gymnasium. Please be prompt. The Marshals will give instructions for the Commencement Ceremony.
Commencement—When/Where To Arrive
Students
All participants are to report to the Jules Center and should be robed and lined up, as instructed at rehearsal, by 7:00 p.m. Women may robe in room 6-100 and men may robe in 6-101.
Please Note: Only diploma covers will be handed out at Commencement. Diplomas are mailed by mid-June following a graduation audit of your records.
Guests
Guest tickets are required for admission to the gymnasium for the Commencement Ceremony. Guest entrance doors (adjacent to Parking Lot D) will open at 6:30 p.m. Handicapped and special needs guests may disembark at this entrance. Guest seating is available in the bleachers; the first two rows are reserved for special-needs attendees.
Webcast of Ceremony
Jefferson will stream video of the Commencement exercises via sunyjefferson.edu.
Children & Free Childcare
Children attending the ceremony must have a ticket and be accompanied by an adult. Strollers are not permitted in the gymnasium.
Jefferson Campus Care will provide free childcare during the Commencement Ceremony and Reception (6:30 p.m.–10:00 p.m.) for children of participants and their guests. Children must be between 18 months and 12 years old. Please contact Jefferson Campus Care at 315-786-2357 by 12:00 p.m. on May 18 to register.
Flowers/Commemorative T-Shirt
Flowers will be available for purchase at the Commencement Ceremony. You can also pre-order flowers. Flowers should be presented after the ceremony is concluded; participants should not carry flowers in the processional.
Commemorative Jefferson Community College Class of 2010 t-shirts with the graduates’ names on the back will be available for purchase for $20 at the commencement ceremony or can be pre-ordered.
Photographs
A professional photographer will be at Commencement to photograph all participants as they receive their credentials. Proofs of the photos will be mailed to graduates and you may place an order if you so choose. You are under no obligation to purchase photos taken at Commencement. Commencement Video/DVD
A video of Jefferson’s entire 46th Commencement Ceremony will be available in segments for free in iTunes (search for Jefferson Community College in the iTunes store). A DVD of Jefferson’s 46th Commencement Ceremony will also be available for purchase for $10 by calling the Bookstore at 315-786-2260.
Following the Ceremony
- Guests are asked to remain seated until the entire academic procession has exited.
- A reception will be held in the Jules Center Commons for graduates and guests.
- The JCC Bookstore (in the Jules Center) will be open on the evening of commencement from 6 p.m.–10 p.m.
