Unlike traditional poetry, performance poetry pieces demand to be brought to life through vocal inflection and body language. Find your voice at this daylong session during which you will explore the works of mentor poets, brainstorm ideas, draft poems, and then perform them with a focus on expression and gesture.

Jefferson Express is not just for adult learners! We have programming that is fun and educational for kids and their families to attend. Jefferson Express has kids’ workshops on Art, Science, Chemistry, Dance, Music, Character Acting and Journalism. Kids like it and parents do too because they are affordable and some are cross-curricular, supporting core curriculum standards in Science, Mathematics, Language Arts, History and Technology (STEM compliant). The bulk of the kids camps are offered during the months of July and August. Kids workshops are held on campus, online and off site.

Since the early scribblings of ancient cave people, pictures have been used to tell a story, capture a moment, and convey a message. Though sometimes frowned upon as frivolous, Comic books are a proud part of the long tradition of graphica. Comics demand readers to use critical thinking and visual literacy skills to bring a seemingly fragmented tale into life.
During our Comic Book Making camp, we will use various comic artists and authors as mentors to find, write, and create our own works of comic wonder. Through a crash course in understanding graphica, writing prompts, storyboards, artwork, editing, and publication, participants will create their own image-driven stories and work towards discovering their voices as they explore the wonderful world of comics.
There are currently no off-campus workshops scheduled
