This course is for girls and boys who love science, especially chemistry. You will learn how chemistry scientist set up and conduct lab experiments using proper laboratory practices and procedures. There are several hands-on exercises with polymers, catalysts and the chemistry of everyday materials.

Engineer a model vertical farm as a potential solution to current food production limitations in a fictional location: Greentown. Because vertical farms are still a new concept with only a few prototype examples worldwide, exploring vertical farms provides youths with a chance to imagine what the future could bring.

Take your game design skills to the next level by creating and animating your own character sprites, 4 of 4 objects, and backgrounds. Start with a name, develop the character’s personality, signature moves, special powers, and a story line. Finish with a fully animated character to be used in your very own game. Students do not need any prior experience in game design, animation, or sketching. Student-created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Games are only compatible on PC computers. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

“I’ve Got the Music in Me” (Ages 6-12)July 24, 2017 - July 28, 2017

Music is everywhere in our lives. Join us at JCC for a week of musical fun. Children will experience many facets of the music world, including the instruments and music media; master composers and famous musicians; music composition and notation; and vocal repertoire and the basics of singing. Kids will create, interpret, analyze, and perform music of various styles. A music informance will be shared with family and friends on the final day of camp.
