Easy Green Energy Technologies (Ages 9-12)
This is a hands-on workshop limited to 8 participants. Kids will be learning to program a real household thermostat, learn how to read Smart meters, and develop strategies to help their parents save money on electricity. Types of energy (including kinetic, potential, and renewable sources) are explored in simple, practical terms as students discover howEarth-friendly technologies keep us comfortable and save us money while minimizing impact on the environment. This workshop is STEM compliant and cross-curricular, supporting core curriculum standards in Science, Mathematics, Language Arts, History and Technology. Expedition: Fiber Optics (Ages 9-12)
This is a hands-on workshop limited to 8 participants. Learn all about how fiber optic cable is made and how light technologies has greatly simplified and sped up our communications – voice, data, and light. Work with a real microscope and an optical tester to check out the inside of an optical fiber and determine continuity! Investigate how cable modes affect signal loads and decipher the color- and number-codes in cable bundles as a real technician will. This workshop is STEM compliant and cross-curricular, supporting core curriculum standards in Science, Mathematics, Language Arts, History and Technology. Radical Reactions of Chemsitry (Grades 5-8)
You’ll learn proper laboratory practices and procedures; manipulate reaction rates, solubility and acid base titrations; and participate in "magical" chemical demonstrations. There are several hands-on exercises with polymers, catalysts and the chemistry of everyday materials. Prerequisite: Students must have a strong interest in science, technology, computers and mathematics. An adult must fill out a nomination form on their behalf. Hip Hop Dance
It’s hip! It’s happening! It’s now! Hip hop is the current dance style seen on most of today’s music videos. Class begins with some funky warm ups, followed by some jammin’ variations and combos to get the young body into the groove. This workshop is very much for dancers of all levels and talent. SPLASH! Pre-3C's (Ages 6-8)
JCC’s 3-C’s camps have been running strong year after year for school age students to attend. We’ve successfully added a new generation of campers with our Pre-3-C’s SPLASH workshop! We will explore the special properties of water, do some water chemistry, and learn about stream insects to determine a stream’s health with the insect and water chemistry findings. This camp is offered on the JCC campus. Prepare to get wet! Children and their parents/guardians are invited to go on a field trip to a local stream on Thursday. Information will be provided ahead of time to parents/guardians who will be able to meet at the site and participate with the children. (CED 857 701)

How to Watch a Film (Ages 13-Adult)
This workshop will empower students with tools and a keen eye to look closer while watching movies, with the goal of gaining meaning of the story, themes and characters. Introduction to Acting (Ages 13-Adult)
This workshop is an intensive, interactive, and fun opportunity that will cover motivation, preparation, scene analysis, improvisation and emotional and sensory exercises. Craig Thornton has been a working playwright and theater director for over twenty years, working intimately with actors in the rehearsal process and through production. Create a working telegraph and send coded messages you can see and hear! This course is all about coding and decoding and ways of transmitting signals. Students investigate how modern telecommunications systems work; they make their own cable, and then build their own communication devices! This workshop is STEM compliant and cross-curricular, supporting core curriculum standards in Science, Mathematics, Language Arts, History and Technology. 3 C's: Creepy, Crawly, Critters (Ages 9+)
Explore a world so tiny that you will have to use a magnifying glass to see it! Entomology for kids will provide a hands-on science experiences for children ages 9 and older that will help stimulate curiosity, foster appreciation, and teach about the endless wonders of the insect world. The wonderful world of invertebrates opens up to children in this curriculum. Students will go on a habitat hunt outside and learn how to collect insects safely. Setting up pitfall traps and painting bug bait on trees is a sure way to attract insects for observation. Invertebrate life cycles can be predicted and studied in the classroom. (CED 864 701)

The Power of PowerPoint (Ages 9-12)
Learn PowerPoint through creation of a virtual story book. This week long kid’s camp combines storytelling and writing with the power of PowerPoint software. Do you like to tell stories? Ukulele (Ages 8-Adult)
Join us for a unique opportunity to learn more about the awesome potential of the ukulele! The ukulele is a small guitar-like instrument that has reached popularity through Hawaiian music. Instructor Sara Ada will take you through the steps of learning basic ukulele strumming during this week long camp at JCC for adults and children alike.
