Online Classes at JCC

How do I know if my online course is SLN or Blackboard?

There are several ways of knowing.

  1. When you find your course in the list on the DL page, and click on it, it will tell you if it is an SLN or Blackboard course.
  2. You can ask your Advisor or the Registrar’s Office when registering.
  3. You can call the Distance Learning Office and ask (315)786-6527,(315)786-2440, (888)435-6522 (ask for Distance Learning).

How do I log in to a Blackboard course?
The Blackboard log in is NOT the same as the SLN password.

  • Go to your Blackboard course, either by:
  • You will see a Log In box.
  • The directions for logging in are right underneath the box.
  • Once logged in, your Blackboard course should be listed there, starting as early as one week before the course start date.
  • Click on it to enter.
  • If it is not listed in the My Courses module, contact your instructor or the Student Helpdesk at 1-888-435-6522 (ask for Instructional Technology) or studenthelpdesk@sunyjefferson.edu.

How do I create an SLN password?
The SLN Password is NOT the same as the Blackboard log in.

  1. Go to the SLN website, http://sln.suny.edu
  2. Click Students.
  3. If you have an SLN password, log in and scroll down to the link on left to “Select/Add Courses.”
  4. If you don’t have an SLN password, click Create SLN Account (right underneath the log in box).
  5. You’ll get a PASS/FAIL confirmation screen.
  6. If it fails, follows directions on screen.
  7. If it passes, click “Yes, Create Account.”
  8. On the first screen, check the box for “SLN (Fully asynchronous distance learning courses...)”
  9. Then, select Jefferson Community College, and click Continue.
  10. On the next screen, you’ll be asked to check off three boxes:
    1. Tested your system? (Yes, you did on the pass/fail screen).
    2. Registered at JCC? (If you have not registered with the JCC Registrar, you must do this now. Getting a password is NOT the same thing as being registered. Your access will be revoked if you get a password but do not register).
    3. Read the Computer Use Statement and check off the box.
  11. Next, select your courses. Make certain to select the correct SECTION NUMBER, not just the correct course. EX: PSY 133-1 vs. PSY 133-2.
  12. Fill in your social security number.
  13. Fill in your last name. No spaces, hyphens or unique characters. This name must match your records at JCC or your access will be revoked.
  14. First name. If you have a common name, add a character such as Mary1.
  15. Internet email address: list one that you will check often during semester.
  16. Remaining questions are self-explanatory. Complete form. Create an Account.
  17. You’ll receive email verifying your log in name and password in about an hour.
  18. Go back to http://sln.suny.edu, log in with your user name and password.
