Succeeding in an Online Course

To succeed, be proactive. If you have questions, contact someone now. Online courses move quickly and there is a lot of work to do. Getting started too late, or missing deadlines, can seriously jeopardize your ability to succeed in the course.

Do you need help finding resources for your online course? The JCC Library can help!

This is how you access the Library:

  1. Go to the JCC website, http://www.sunyjefferson.edu
  2. Click on “Current Students” in the menu bar.
  3. Click on “Library” in the drop-down menu.

Library Databases. Select "Articles - JCC Databases" in the Related Links area of the Library web pages.

In order to access the Library Databases, you need to use the log-in procedure which is clearly explained on the log-in screen. Library Databases give you access to millions of articles from magazines, journals and newspapers. If you can’t log in, please call (315)786-6511 for help.

E-Books (electronic books). The Library has a collection of over 12,000 e-books, which are included in CannonCat, the Library's online catalog. To access e-books:

  1. On the Library's home page, click "Books - CannonCat"
  2. Limit your search to e-books by clicking "Electronic Books"
  3. Enter your search terms and click "Search"
  4. When you find a title you would like to read, click the link "Click here to read this electronic book"
  5. Login using the procedures outlined above.

Reference help. If you need help with a reference question, or can’t find information on a subject you’re working on, you can get reference help from a librarian. (Don’t be afraid to ask questions! We’ll be glad to answer them.)

Other Library services are also available to you from our web page.

They include: Illiad, which allows you to borrow materials from other libraries; MLA Documentation; a research tutorial; Library Handouts; and more.
