Welcome to Online Courses at Jefferson Community College!
Here are the directions for accessing your online courses.
- Start on Time - Online Courses are NOT SELF-PACED!
- For Summer 2008 Early Session (05/27/08-06/23/08) – you can link
your password as early as May 6 th and start doing coursework as of May
20 th – a week ahead of the official start date of May 27th.
Please
note: The 4-week classes are 15-week classes compressed into a 4-week time
frame. It is estimated that between 30-35 hours of study time per week
is needed to succeed in a 4-week class. Due to the accelerated pace, we
strongly recommend students to limit themselves to one class during a 4-week
session.
For Summer 2008 Regular Session (06/02/08-07/24/08) – you can link
your password as early as May 12 th and start doing coursework as of May
26 th – a week ahead of the official start date of June 2nd.
For Summer 2008 Late Session (06/30/08-07/25/08) – you can link
your password as early as June 9 th and start doing coursework as of June
23 rd – a week ahead of the official start date of June 30th.
Please note: The 4-week classes are 15-week classes compressed into

- Go to http://sln.suny.edu
- Click on Students.
- If you already have a password, log in and skip to Step 21 (SLN password
is not same as Blackboard password).
- If you don’t have an SLN password, click Create SLN Account.
- You will get a PASS/FAIL confirmation screen for your browser.
- If it fails, you’ll get a screen explaining what you can do to fix
it.
- If it passes, click Yes, Create Account.
- Check the box for “SLN (Fully asynchronous distance learning courses...)”
- Then, select Jefferson Community College, and click Continue.
- Next you’ll be asked to check off three boxes:
- The first asks if you’ve tested your system. (You did on the pass/fail
screen).
- The second asks if you’ve registered at JCC (GoArmyEd students
register through the GoArmyEd portal).
- Read the Computer Use Statement and check off the box.
- Select all your courses. Make sure that you choose the course that includes
the section that you are enrolled in. For example, if you enrolled in HIS
151 SJA, you will want to link your SLN password to a course that includes
that section number, such as HIS 151 SJA and SEA.
If you select the wrong section number, your access will
be revoked and it may be too late to join the correct class.
- Fill in your social security number.
- Fill in your last name. No spaces, hyphens or unique characters. Your last
name on SLN should match the last name on your records with JCC.
- First name. If you have a common name you may have to add a character to
make your I.D. unique, such as Mary1.
- Internet email address: use your army email address.
- Remaining questions are self-explanatory. Complete form. Create an Account.
- You’ll receive an email verifying your log in name and password in
about an hour.
- The next time you go to the SLN site, log in with your user name and password.
- If you didn’t link your courses before, Select/Change Course Access
now.
- To add a course, select Jefferson Community College and then courses. Submit.
- When you log into SLN, your courses will be listed. Click on a course to
enter it.
- Check the Syllabus and Schedule to learn when and how often you must participate.
Succeeding in an Online Course
To succeed, be proactive. If you have questions, contact someone now. Online
courses move quickly and there is a lot of work to do. Getting started too
late, or missing deadlines, can seriously jeopardize your ability to succeed
in the course.

Library Information (315)786-2225
As you probably know, GoArmyEd has discontinued Galileo, its online
library resource for GoArmyEd students. However, JCC has an excellent library
with many services for online students.
Do you need help finding resources for your online course? The JCC Library
can help!
This is how you access the Library:
- Go to the JCC website, http://www.sunyjefferson.edu
- Click on “Current Students”
- Click on “Library”
Library Databases. You
can select “Articles - JCC Databases” from the left menu
on the College's website. |
In order to access the Library Databases, you need to use the log-in procedure
which is clearly explained on the log-in screen. Library Databases give you
access to over 11,000 articles from magazines, journals and newspapers. If
you can’t log in, please call (315)786-6511 for help.
E-Books (electronic books). The Library has a collection
of about 10,000 e-books,which are included in the CannonCat,
JCC's book catalog, also on the Library’s web page. Use the same
login you use for your Cannonmail account to login and read e-books.
| Reference help. If you need help with a
reference question, or can’t find information on a subject you’re
working on, you can get reference help from a librarian by using the e-mail
or live chat functions on the Library web page. The e-mail reference desk
is open from 9 am - 7 pm during semester hours; the live chat function
is available during the times specified on the web page. Don’t be
afraid to ask questions! We’ll be glad to answer them. |
Other Library services are also available to you from our web page.
They include: Inter-Library Loan, Dare to Document (APA and MLA documentation
guide), Information Literacy Tutorial, and web evaluation criteria.
