Soldiers and Families
Jefferson Community College offers many educational opportunities and services for soldiers, their family members and veterans and has been designated as an institutional member of Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC), a group of over 1000 colleges and universities providing voluntary postsecondary education to members of the military throughout the world.
As a SOC member, the College recognizes the unique nature of the military lifestyle and has committed itself to easing the transfer of relevant course credits, providing flexible academic residency requirements, and crediting learning from appropriate military training. Jefferson also participates in the Department of Defense My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) that provides funding for military spouses pursuing a degree or certification in a portable career.
SOC was developed jointly by educational representatives of each of the Armed Services, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and a consortium of thirteen leading national higher education associations. It is sponsored by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).
Fort Drum Army Continuing Education Program (ACES)
JCC maintains an office with full-time academic advisors in the Directorate of Human Resources (DHR) Education Center Annex at 10450 5th Armored Division Road on Fort Drum. JCC conducts classes in the evening in condensed 8-week formats in both the DHR Education Center Annex and the Robert C. McEwen Education Complex at 4300 Camp Hale Road. additionally, Jefferson can make arrangements for special unit classes upon unit commander request.
Soldiers and family members may enroll in classes both on Fort Drum, online and on the College’s main campus in Watertown, about 20 minutes away from Fort Drum. Classes on campus and online are typically offered in 4-week, 8-week and traditional 15-week formats.

JCC is designated as a “Military Friendly School” by G.I. Jobs, an honor that places JCC in the top 15% of schools nationwide. On average, 30% of Jefferson’s student body is comprised of soldiers, family members, veterans and retirees.
New York provides the following benefits to both military personnel, who are stationed on active duty in New York, and their family members:

- Eligibility to apply for New York State financial aid programs
