Flame Concert Tonight at JCC
In recognition of disabilities awareness month, Jefferson Community College (JCC) will host a rock concert featuring Central New York band, Flame, on Tuesday, October 9 at 7:00 p.m. in Sturtz Theater. Admission is free and the concert is open to the public.
Flame is a group of 11 professional musicians, each of whom has a disability of some type. The band was formed at Lexington Center, a Gloversville (NY) agency that serves people with developmental disabilities. The mission of Flame is to create awareness of the abilities that disabled people have. On the road, Flame has performed in 7 states, 45 towns and as far away as Athens, Greece. The band has produced three albums All for a Reason, Flame Live at the Glove and Holiday Classic. In 2009, Flame was featured on Good Morning America. In 2007, the group received the Cover Band of the Year Award presented by Metroland magazine.
On Wednesday, October 10 Jefferson will host a hands-on assistive technology fair from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Jules Center Commons. A sampling of adaptive equipment including speech assistance devices, chairs with lifting capabilities, various medical equipment, voice recognition, automatic door openers and adaptive toys for children will be available.
