Health Information Technology Students Complete Training at JCC

On June 28, 2013, seventeen students completed their six-month Health Information Technology (HIT) certificate training at Jefferson Community College (JCC). Provided through a partnership between the JCC Continuing Education Division and the Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization, the HIT Program makes it possible for health care providers to better manage patient care through secure use and sharing of health information and records.

“We are thrilled to be able to give the students, their employers and potential employers skills that are in-demand in the area’s healthcare community,” says Jill M. Pippin, Dean for Continuing Education at JCC. “As our local practitioners switch to using Electronic Health Records (EHRs), it is essential to have employees with the skillset available to manage those EHRs through Health Information Technology, which is where this program comes in.”

“I think anyone entering the healthcare field should have some of this basic information or understanding of what is entailed with using an electronic health record, manipulation, workflow, integration, etc.,” says Ann DuMond, CREDO Community Center and HIT training program participant.

Two certification examinations to attain nationally recognized HIT credentials were administered during the training. Upon completion of the program, students earned 230 hours of training in health information technology and were presented a certificate of completion from JCC.
