JCC Earth Week Celebration to feature Lectures

Jefferson Community College (JCC) will hold an Earth Week Celebration beginning Monday, April 22 through Friday, April 26, 2013 with several scheduled activities to raise awareness of environmental and ecological issues.

The weeklong celebration will include daily lectures on energy related topics featuring guest speakers. Lectures are free admission and the public is invited to attend.

In addition to lectures, JCC will offer many eco-friendly contests and activities for students such as a tree and flower identification photo contest, a campus trail pick-up followed by a hiking and biking event, can-it contest whereby campus clubs and organizations compete to collect the most deposit bottles/cans, a seedling sale and an Arbor Day tree planting project. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to initiate their own ecological resolution or energy saving activity.

Green Jobs-Green NY: Residential Energy Workshop

Lecturer: Jerry K. Loch, Educator, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County

Thursday, April 25
Taking a Charge: Community Energy Policy Primer
12:30 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.

Presenter: Dr. Raymond E. Peterson, Professor of Political Science at JCC

Friday, April 26
Leafing a Legacy: JCC’s TREE Campus USA Designation
12:20 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Presenter: Matthew R. Lambert, chair of the JCC Ever Green Committee. Lambert will talk about the TREE Campus USA program, what Jefferson has done to achieve TREE Campus Designation and what the college must do to maintain the status.

Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony
1:45 p.m.
(immediately following the Leafing a Legacy presentation). Planting will take place on the JCC athletic field along Interstate 81.
