To foster personal and educational development of today’s youth, King initiated the King Summer Intern Program and A Call to Manhood, a program designed to unite young African American males with positive adult role models. Additionally, King developed a charity basketball game, Hoops for Health, to create awareness of the effects of substance abuse on infants. In 2008, the anniversary of his father’s “I Have a Dream” speech, King III spoke at the Democratic National Convention on behalf of then presidential candidate, Barack Obama. According to his official website (http://www.mlkiii.org/Home.php), King III received one of India’s most prestigious honors in 2010, the Ramakrishna Bajaj Memorial Global Award for outstanding contributions to the promotion of human rights.
