NABCEP Recognized PV Installation Course offered at JCC in April
Jefferson Community College (JCC), in collaboration with the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF), will hold a basic Solar Power as Renewable Energy (SPARE) Photovoltaic Installation course recognized by North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). The course will run 4-days beginning Monday, April 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on JCC’s campus in Watertown.
The SPARE course, taught by industry professional Dr. Gay E. Canough and SUNY ESF assistant professor Dr. Neal M. Abrams, fulfills pre-requisites required for NABCEP certification. Upon successful completion, students may sign up to take the entry level exam offered by NABCEP.
Course topics include basic instruction on how to site, design and install photovoltaic (PV) systems; sizing systems for grid-connected and off-grid PV systems; solar resources, best orientation and tilt for PV arrays; design of systems to serve a given electrical load; mounting systems and how they affect roofs; and safety practices. Students will conduct a 20’x 20’ PV mock build during the class.
The course fee is $700. Registration deadline is March 25. To register for the SUNY-ESF SPARE course or for more information, call the JCC Continuing Education Division at 315-786-2438. For information about NABCEP certification, visit www.navcep.org.
