CCS to Host Political Pollster John Zogby Sept. 13

Center for Community Studies at JCC to Host Civic Engagement Forums in September

The Center for Community Studies (CCS) Civic Engagement Series will feature two guest speakers at Jefferson Community College (JCC) in September. On Thursday, September 13, political pollster John Zogby will give a presentation entitled “Who Votes, Who Doesn’t and Why.” On Thursday, September 20, Bob Deans, author and associate director of communications for the Natural Resources Defense Council will lead a discussion of civic engagement with respect to the environment. Both public forums take place 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Sturtz Theater on campus.  Admission is free.   

Zogby is a senior analyst with JZ Analytics and founder of Zogby International, a market research and opinion polling firm founded in 1984 that has conducted public opinion research in more than 70 countries. Since the 1996 presidential election, Zogby has demonstrated pinpoint accuracy of polling the United States’ presidential elections earning the monikers “the maverick predictor” (by The Washington Post) and “the prince of polling” (by political strategist Mary Matalin).  Author of The Way We’ll Be: The Zogby Report on the Transformation of the American Dream, Zogby is known for his data accuracy, trend spotting and global perspective. Annually, he delivers over 100 speeches, lectures and salon sessions, contributes to network television news broadcasts and has served as an election analyst on Al Jazeera English, an international 24-hour English-language news and current affairs TV channel. 

Bob Deans was a correspondent for the Atlanta-Journal Constitution for 25 years and former president of the White House Correspondents Association before joining the National Resources Defense Council. He has authored, co-authored and contributed to a number of books including most recent Reckless: the Political Assault on the American Environment. Other titles include The River Where America Began: A Journey Along the James; In Deep Water: The Anatomy of a Disaster, the Fate of the Gulf and How to End our Oil Addiction.
