JCC Foundation Receives Bequest from Lifelong Watertown Resident and Surgeon

The Jefferson Community College Foundation has received a substantial gift from the late Dr. David Gregor, who died in August 2013.  The bequest is the largest received to date by the Jefferson Foundation and underscores Dr. Gregor’s commitment to education and to his community.

Dr. Gregor was a lifelong resident of Watertown. He was the son and grandson of Watertown surgeons. He was educated at Exeter Academy and Williams College and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Temple University. Dr. Gregor served in the United States Army and completed his surgical training at the University of Rochester before completing a fellowship in thoracic surgery in San Francisco. He returned to Watertown and practiced surgery for nearly 40 years. He was a member of Watertown Surgical Group and was on the staffs of Mercy Hospital and Samaritan Medical Center. He held several leadership positions at both hospitals including chief of staff at Samaritan Medical Center. In addition to his long-term commitment to Jefferson Community College, Dr. Gregor generously donated to many organizations. His leadership gift to the Jefferson Community College Foundation will support the aspirations of Jefferson students for many years to come.

“We are grateful for Dr. Gregor’s support of Jefferson Community College through the years and appreciate his extremely generous bequest to the Foundation which will greatly enhance our efforts to prepare students to reach their dreams.” said Dr. Carole A. McCoy, president of Jefferson Community College.

“His gift is something that will profoundly impact the lives of our students, the work of the College and the community as a whole,” said Alicia M. Dewey, executive director of the JCC Foundation.  “Dr. Gregor will certainly be remembered for his commitment to philanthropy and his support of our community.”

“Dr. Gregor’s gift is a testimony to the impact that Jefferson Community College has on our community,” added Joseph L. Thesier, president of the JCC Foundation Board of Directors.
