JCC to offer Kids Workshops in Jan. & Feb.

Jefferson Express, non-credit workshops of Jefferson Community College (JCC), will offer a youth workshop series in January and February for students in 1st through 9th grades. Topics include performance poetry, comic book making, and baking. Youth will learn new skills while having fun at these workshops held on JCC’s campus in Watertown. 

Registration deadline is five business days prior to the workshop start date. Don’t wait to register. Workshops with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled.

Kids Workshops

Performance Poetry (Grades 4-9)
Unlike traditional poetry, performance poetry pieces demand to be brought to life through vocal inflection and body language. Find your voice at this daylong session during which you will explore the works of mentor poets, brainstorm ideas, draft poems, and then perform them with a focus on expression and gesture. Note: Bring a bagged lunch. (CED 341 701)

Pow! Zap! Zing! Comic Book Making (Grades 4-9)
You will use various comic artists and authors as mentors to find, write, and create our own works of comic wonder. Through a crash course in understanding graphics, writing prompts, storyboards, artwork, editing and publication, you will create your own image-driven stories and work towards discovering your voice as you explore the wonderful world of comics. Pre-registration is required. Note: Bring a bagged lunch. (CED 042 701)

Mom and Me: Rainbow Baking! (Grades 1-8)
Joins us during winter break for some fun in the kitchen! Rainbow layer cookies, rainbow sugar cookies and rainbow cupcakes are on the menu! Kids must attend with an adult. (CED 823 701)
