Student Representative Elected to JCC Board of Trustees

Published July 24, 2014:  Alyssa-ann F. Mckenzie-Chery, Black River, has been elected by the student body at Jefferson Community College to serve as student representative on the Jefferson Community College (JCC) Board of Trustees for the 2014-2015 academic year. Her term began in July 2014.  

Alyssa is enrolled in both the liberal arts-humanities and social sciences associate degree program and winery management certificate program at Jefferson.  On campus, she is involved in a variety of activities including serving as office manager for Student Government and Jefferson chapter president of the National Society for Leadership & Success during the 2013-2014 year.  She worked collaboratively with Student Government and the American Association of University Women, of which she is a student member and chapter leader, to coordinate the College’s first Women’s Empowerment and Success Series for students and community members in March of 2013. 

Alyssa relocated from Florida to the Watertown area in in 2013 when her husband, currently active duty military, was stationed at Fort Drum.  She was previously employed as the director of events marketing and business development for The Event Firm International in Miami and as lead associate/public relations director for Labels Timeless Clothing in Vero Beach, Florida.

After graduating from Jefferson, Alyssa plans to earn her bachelor’s degree in international relations and continue on to pursue her master’s degree with the hope of working for the U.S. State Department or the Council on Foreign Relations.  

Alyssa’s first official Board of Trustees meeting took place on July 2, 2014.
