Diff'rent Strokes Actor to Give Presentation at JCC

The Jefferson Community College campus activities board will host a presentation by former child star and actor, Todd Bridges, on Friday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Robert R. and Jean S. Sturtz Theater. Admission is free. The presentation at JCC is based on Bridges’ book, Killing Willis. A book signing will follow immediately after the presentation.

While Bridges made appearances on the 1977 TV dramas Little House on the Prairie and Love Boat, he is most known for his role as Willis Jackson on the hit TV sitcom Diff’rent Strokes. Bridges played the character of Willis for eight years before the show went off air in 1986. Traumas associated with childhood stardom coupled with his parents’ divorce drove him to drugs and crime. His actions almost cost him a life sentence in jail.

Today, Bridges uses his testimony to encourage others. In 1998, he opened the Todd Bridges Youth Foundation, a youth center for inner city children in Los Angeles. Since 2002, he has appeared on reality TV shows Celebrity Boxing and FearFactor and on the TV sitcom Everybody Hates Chris. In 2010 he was a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show to promote the release of his book, Killing Willis.
