Jefferson Appoints Dean of Students

Jefferson Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Ronald C. Shidemantle to the position of Dean of Students.  The dean of students is responsible for leading several student life functions at Jefferson Community College including residence life, student activities, judicial affairs, counseling, and health services with direct report to the vice president for students.

Mr. Shidemantle comes to Jefferson with more than twenty years of student affairs and residence life experience at the collegiate level.  Most recently, Mr. Shidemantle served as the dean of students at the Enid Campus of Northern Oklahoma College.  As the chief student affairs officer, Mr. Shidemantle oversaw residence life and campus security, along with numerous campus life programs including disability services, campus activities, intramurals, all student clubs and activities, and international programs. He supervised ten professional staff, campus security, and residence life staff including residence directors, assistants, coordinators and student employees. Additionally, Mr. Shidemantle was the chief judicial officer for the campus and responsible for enforcing the policies and procedures contained within the Guide to Student Rights and Responsibilities.

Previously, Mr. Shidemantle served as director of residence life at Robert Morris University in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania where he was responsible for the housing and residence life program, including co-curricular activities, for 1700 students living in fourteen residence halls.  He has also served as director of Greek life at both Duquesne University and Virginia Tech.

Throughout his career in student affairs, Mr. Shidemantle has established solid working relationships and collaborated with related campus areas including athletics, dining services, alumni affairs, financial aid, academic advisement, student records and facilities management.  He has successfully developed and administered student life budgets and created and implemented training programs for resident directors, resident assistants, practicum students and interns. Additionally, Mr. Shidemantle has experience coordinating revenue generating summer camps and conferences that utilize student housing facilities during summer months.

Among Mr. Shidemantle’s professional affiliations are memberships in the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the Association of College and University Housing Officers International, the American College Personnel Association and the Association of Fraternity Advisors. He holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and social work as well as a master of arts degree in student personnel from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Shidemantle joined Jefferson on September 23, 2013.
