JCC Campus Care Earns Re-Accreditation from NAEYC

Jefferson Campus Care, located on the Jefferson Community College campus, has earned re-accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals.

Early childhood experiences have an enormous impact on children’s lifelong learning and positively contribute to their health and development. “We are proud to have this designation of quality attached to our program,” says Roxanna Silsby, MS, director of Jefferson Campus Care. “We strive every day to provide the highest quality of care and education to the children we serve. NAEYC accreditation sets high standards; by meeting those standards we are letting the community know that we are committed to excellence. The children in our program are receiving the best care and early education possible.”

Jefferson Campus Care, accredited since 2000, serves children of JCC students, faculty/staff and community members. Current enrollment is 40 children ranging in age from 21 months to 5 years. In addition to providing a safe, enriching environment where children can grow and develop, Campus Care offers family engagement opportunities, childcare cost subsidies, nutritious meals, and a preschool program using creative curriculum and NYS core curriculum standards.

The NAEYC accreditation system was created in 1985 to set professional standards for early childhood education, and to help families identify high-quality preschools, childcare centers and other early education programs. To earn NAEYC accreditation, a program must complete a four-step application process and meet ten NAEYC early childhood program standards consisting of more than 400 detailed criteria. To earn NAEYC re-accreditation, a program must demonstrate continued compliance to the NAEYC ten program standards. NAEYC-accredited programs are also subject to unannounced visits during their accreditation, which lasts for five years.

According to the NAEYC website, Jefferson Campus Care and two childcare centers located on Fort Drum are the only NYS licensed daycare NAEYC accredited centers in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.
