Jefferson Community College (JCC) Melvil Dewey Library collected 580 children’s and young adult books on campus in support of the annual Literacy of Northern New York book drive.

“The generosity of Jefferson’s faculty, staff and students is always astounding,” says Connie A. Holberg, library director at JCC. “These books will be given to children who will read them over and over, imaging and exploring through words. Our community is a better place because there are those that care about early literacy.”

"Many families in our community can't afford to buy reading materials for their children, so they greatly appreciate the books donated by the faculty and students at Jefferson Community College," said M. Cecilia Brock, Executive Director of Literacy of Northern New York.

The books will be distributed to North Country children through the Salvation Army’s Christmas Give Away Program. Over 7,000 books have been donated during the fourteen years that JCC has been involved in the Literacy of Northern New York book drive.
