JCC Receives 2013 Northeast Region Program of the Year Award

Students of the Jefferson Community College (JCC) Campus Activities Board (CAB) and Student Government, along with student ambassadors, received the 2013 Northeast Region Program of the Year Award bestowed by the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities for their collaborative work organizing Leadership Day held on October 24, 2013.

Launched in 2008, Leadership Day was designed to enhance and develop leadership skills of high school and JCC students. Over the course of the past five years, 15 area high schools have attended Leadership Day. The program features a keynote speaker and sessions on team building and goal setting. The 2013 Leadership Day included keynote speaker Frank Warren, founder of the internet sensation PostSecret; Playfair, an interactive program on team-building, campus unity and school spirit; and David Garibaldi, rock and roll painter. As a result of receiving the Northeast Region Program of the Year Award, Leadership Day will qualify for National Program of the Year Award consideration.

CAB is comprised of six students who plan campus life activities featuring a variety of events of both an educational and entertainment nature.

Student Government, comprised of six elected students, advocates on behalf of fellow students, responds to student concerns, and helps plan activities on campus.

Through Jefferson’s work study program, 15 student ambassadors are employed in the Welcome Center. Student ambassadors lead campus tours, schedule shadow visits for prospective students and contribute to campus sponsored events such as Leadership Day.
