Winners of the JCC Spaghetti Bridge Building Competition

On November 5, 2015 the Engineering Club at Jefferson Community College (JCC) hosted its 12th Annual Spaghetti Bridge Building Competition. Thirty-three high school teams and eight middle school teams from 14 area schools and the Bohlen Technical Center of Jefferson-Lewis BOCES participated.

At the end of the day, more than 150 high school and middle school students gathered in the Robert R. and Jean S. Sturtz Theater to test their bridges for durability and weight. Trophies and cash prizes were awarded to first, second and third place high school winners and the first place middle school winning team.

The JCC Spaghetti Bridge Building Competition is sponsored by Allied Motion; Barton & Loguidice PC; Bernier, Carr & Associates; C&S Engineers; Jefferson Concrete Corp.; Purcell Construction Corporation; Thousand Islands Bridge Authority; and W.D. Bach Excavating & Consulting, LLC.

Team Free Will, coached by Walter J. Berwick of the Bohlen Technical Center of Jefferson-Lewis BOCES took 1st place and a cash prize of $100. Their spaghetti bridge had a 31.1 load to weight ratio.

 

 

 

 

 

Team Apollo, coached by Tom Pullen, of Pulaski Central School took 2nd place and a cash prize of $50. Team Apollo built a spaghetti bridge that had a 20.1 load to weight ratio.

 

 

 

 

 

Team e-LEMON-ators, coached by Suzanne Fiacco of Colton-Pierrepont Central School took 3rd place and a cash prize of $25 for their spaghetti bridge that had a 12.7 load to weight ratio.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the middle school competition, Team Batman, Kitty-Cat and Dakota, coached by Heather Delity of Gouverneur Central School took first place and won $25 for their bridge that had a 8.43 load to weight ratio.
