In conjunction with the State University of New York (SUNY) project “SUNY’s Got Your Back,” Jefferson Community College (JCC) donated 25 drawstring backpacks to the Victims Assistance Center of Jefferson County on Thursday, April 14, 2016.

“SUNY’s Got Your Back,” led by the SUNY Title IX Coordinators Association, demonstrates support to victims of sexual and interpersonal violence with backpacks filled with personal care items to be distributed to shelters throughout the state. "Students, faculty, and staff at SUNY's campuses across the state have been working to address issues of domestic and sexual violence in their communities in a variety of ways,” says Lisa Evaneski, President of the SUNY Title IX Coordinators Association. “We are proud to build on those efforts and pull together now in this first united initiative." The initial goal of the project is to provide 2,016 backpacks from SUNY campuses to local centers and shelters.

“Jefferson Community College is honored to assist Jefferson county survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault through the “SUNY’s Got Your Back” backpack program,” says Betsy D. Penrose, Vice President for Students. “The Victims Assistance Center of Jefferson County is a vital resource for survivors of violent crime in our community and we are pleased to support their efforts through this contribution.”
