JCC to present Community Concerts & Piano Recital in May

Jefferson Community College (JCC) music students and members of the community at large will present three performances in May at 7:00 p.m. in Sturtz Theater. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

Celebrating their 25th Anniversary is the JCC Orchestra and Wind Ensemble!  On Wednesday, May 4 they will dedicate their spring concert to the ensemble's originator Frank Sacci (who passed away in 2014) and to former college president John W. Deans. Conducting the ensemble is Daniel L. Mosher.

On Monday, May 9, 2016 the JCC Humanities Department will host a piano recital for music student Phuc “Brian” Vo, originally from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Brian is a sophomore at Jefferson majoring in humanities and social sciences with an emphasis on performing arts. In addition to his piano recital, Brian plays in the JCC orchestra ensemble.  The piano recital on May 9 is Brian’s second public performance held at Jefferson. He anticipates graduating in May and transferring in the fall to Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.

On Tuesday, May 10, 2016 the Jefferson Singers and the JCC Jazz Rock Ensemble will share their passion for making music. The Jefferson Singers are under the direction of Sue Gamet and the Jazz Rock Ensemble is under the direction of Steven B. Lester.  Janine M. Johnson is the piano accompanist for the college’s official choir, the Jefferson Singers.

Community members may join the JCC music ensembles! Area musicians may sign up through the JCC Continuing Education Division by calling (315) 786-2438. Individuals over 59 years of age may qualify for a tuition waiver to join the ensemble free.
