JCC holds Student Team & Athlete Recognition Ceremony

In its 17th year of recognizing athletes for their individual, team and season accomplishments, Jefferson Community College (JCC) held the inaugural annual event, Student Team and Athlete Recognition (S.T.A.R.) Ceremony on campus May 11, 2016. Athletes were lauded for their National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III Division III All-Region honors, Mid-State Athletic Conference (MSAC) All-Conference team honors, NJCAA All-American honors and All-MSAC awards. Additionally, three JCC athletes received scholarships.

The D. Rene Valentine Memorial Scholarship, bestowed upon a student athlete who demonstrates tremendous leadership and work ethic both in the classroom and on the field, was awarded to sophomore softball player Korine J. Clark of Chaumont. Clark graduated from JCC in May with an associate in science degree in criminal justice. While a student at JCC, she served as president of student government (spring 2016 semester) and was a member of the College’s Tau Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and Sigma Alpha Pi of the National Society of Leadership and Success. She was named to the President’s List nearly every semester at Jefferson and she received the 2016 Outstanding Criminal Justice Student Award. Clark plans to transfer to SUNY Oswego in the fall.

The Frontier League awards scholarships to two former Frontier League athletes who excel both in the classroom and on the field.  Recipients of the Frontier League Scholarships are sophomore Bradley J. LaLone of Adams, member of the JCC men’s soccer team and golf team, and sophomore Deleha N. Decker of Brownville, member of the JCC women’s soccer team and softball team. LaLone graduated from Jefferson in May with his associate in science degree in engineering and plans to transfer to Clarkson University in the fall. Decker, also a member of the Class of 2016, received her associate in applied science degree in accounting. Additionally, Decker received the 2016 Outstanding Accounting Student Award and the Faculty Association Outstanding Student Award.
