Online Learning

Online education gives you the opportunity to achieve your educational goals regardless of location. At JCC, taking online courses allows you to continue working full-time and maintain personal and family obligations. You can even earn your complete degree online.

JCC offers a variety of online class options from full semester, to 8-week and 4-week sessions.  While you don't have to attend class at a given hour and day, you do have to sign on, do the assignments, interact with your instructors and classmates, and participate in the course on a regular basis.  Online courses go through the same rigorous curriculum process established by institutions, and they are taught by experienced, qualified instructors.

You can take JCC classes from virtually anywhere, provided you have an Internet connection. The most exciting thing is you can do the work at any time of day - before work or after work; at noon or after midnight - whatever works best for you! You can choose from credit courses and non-credit workshops, all of which you can take right from your own home!

Here are a few highlights of online learning:

• Participate when it’s handy for you. Online learning offers flexibility and convenience. Except for tasks like taking quizzes and turning in assignments when they are due, your schedule is up to you. You must commit to certain time blocks to do your work in order to meet the instructor’s expectations.
• Log in to your course from any location with a computer and Internet access. You may access the course 24 hours a day, seven days a week from home, work, a college campus facility, or public library.
• Interact and collaborate with classmates and teachers from all around the world. 
• There are weekly deadlines and assignments, but there are no live classes to attend or mandatory real-time chat sessions to participate in. Instead, lectures, course assignments, quizzes, and discussions all take place online at your convenience.
  • Your course may require proctored exams. Make sure to read your Course Information documents to see if your instructor requires proctored exams.

Preview week

Jefferson uses the Blackboard Learning Management System to deliver their online courses.   You can learn more about how online courses work and practice many of the types of activities that may be required of you, such as participating in discussions, uploading documents and taking online tests and quizzes through the Blackboard Orientation. 

Most online courses are typically available one week before the actual start date.  This is called Preview Week.  During Preview Week, you can get a feel for how the class will work and and what will be required of you.
