JCC Releases Black River Review Volume XXVII

The Jefferson Community College (JCC) English department released Volume XXVII of the Black River Review, a journal of poetry, musical arrangements, prose and fine arts, on May 3, 2017 during a campus reading and presentation. Students were recognized for their outstanding contributions in art, writing, and music. The Black River Review cover art, a drawing titled Skin Deep: Homage to “Beauty and the Beast,” is the work of JCC student Kairah E. Savage of Watertown.

Recipients of the Outstanding Art Contribution Award are Mackenzie L. Adle of Gouverneur for her collage pieces The Fenced in Pasture and Ribbon Dancer;Jessica Roach of Theresa for her collage pieces Amish Grove and Midnight Marsh along with painting titled Dodo Bird; and Kairah E. Savage of Watertown for her college pieces Casualities of War, Trials of Love, and Abused Privilege.

Recipient of the Outstanding Music Contribution Award is Liam M. Zaffora-Reeder of Watertown for his composition titled Flute Trio.

Recipient of the Outstanding Writing Contribution Award is Rachel A. Filkins of Theresa for her contribution in fiction titled Desperation.

Complimentary copies of the Black River Review are available at the campus bookstore in Jules Center (Building 6) and the College Library located in the Deans Collaborative Learning Center.

In late June, the publication can be viewed online. The editors of the Black River Review receive submissions from Jefferson students, alumni, faculty and staff.

The Black River Review is sponsored by the JCC English department and the JCC Faculty Student Association.
