JCC to hold Information Session for Natural Gas Bootcamp on Dec. 19

On Tuesday, December 19, Jefferson Community College (JCC) will hold a Natural Gas Bootcamp information session for soldiers who will be ending their military service within the next six months and veterans who are seeking employment and meet certain criteria to learn more about free natural gas training. The information session is 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Jules Center Commons.

Natural Gas Bootcamp, a 6-week training program developed by NY Troops to Energy Jobs based on industry standards and recognized in every state, supports transitioning solders as they begin their journey to civilian life as well as unemployed veterans. Northeast utilities will need hundreds of natural gas workers over the next few years to build infrastructure to meet the needs of customers. At the same time, hundreds of thousands of military veterans with skills compliant with energy utility needs will be seeking civilian work.

Natural Gas Bootcamp will provide a refresher in basic math skills and energy math instruction and cover topics including  safety and principles of natural gas, hand and power tools, excavation/backfilling, locating gas structures, piping, resume writing, interview skills, and customer focus.

Natural Gas Bootcamp training is supported by NY Troops for Energy Jobs and partners Center for Energy Workforce Development, Con Edison, National Grid, and Fort Drum Soldier for Life Transition Assistance Program.

For more information, call the JCC Fort Drum office at (315) 786-2425 or the JCC Continuing Education Division at (315) 786-6585.

Funding is made possible by a New York State Regional Economic Development Council Department of Labor grant.
