On January 26, 2018, Jefferson County Sheriff Colleen M. O’Neill presented Mitchell C. Netto, a Jefferson Community College criminal justice major, with a $250 scholarship from the New York State Sheriffs’ Association Institute. The merit-based award is bestowed to a student enrolled full-time at a community college who is majoring in criminal justice, police science or equivalent and expresses an intent to pursue a career in the criminal justice field.

Netto, Watertown, holds a 3.68 GPA at Jefferson and has been named to President’s and Dean’s List. He participates in the College’s Honors Program and is a member of the JCC men’s lacrosse team. He is currently employed by the City of Watertown Planning Department and volunteers in the community at Holy Family Church and with the Watertown High School swim team. Netto anticipates graduating from Jefferson in May 2018. He plans to transfer in the fall to University of Albany School of Criminal Justice. His career goal is to become a state trooper or agent for homeland security.
