JCC to Honor Alumni & Hall of Fame Inductees Aug. 9
Jefferson Community College (JCC) will hold a Distinguished Alumni and Cannoneer Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Thursday, August 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Watertown Elks Lodge. The ceremony kicks-off the College’s first ever all alumni reunion weekend August 9 through August 12.
The 2012 distinguished alumni will be recognized for their professional achievement and exemplary commitment to their community and Jefferson Community College. Three new members will be inducted into the Class of 2012 Cannoneer Hall of Fame for their outstanding athletic success and significant contributions to JCC’s athletic program.
The 2012 Distinguished Alumni honorees are Dr. G. Nicholas Verne, Class of 1983 - Professional Achievement Award; Dr. Marie A. Hess, Class of 1974 - Jeffersonian Award; and Nathaniel J. Chapin, Class of 2003 - Rising Star Award.
Dr. Verne, Galveston, Texas, currently serves as a professor and associate chairman of medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Marie A. Hess, Sackets Harbor, has been involved in healthcare education at JCC since 1975 and currently manages the Department of Labor Grant which funds Jefferson’s Weekend Nursing Program. Nathaniel J. Chapin, Mountainview, California, is a senior software engineer for Google, Inc.
The Class of 2012 Cannoneer Hall of Fame inductees are Kenneth Puffer of Valdosta, Georgia, JCC coach and athletic director from 1967-1990; Amy Jo (Leonard) Sipher ’92 of Queensbury, basketball player; and Scott K. Wilson of Chaumont, basketball player from 1982-84.
