TRIO Student Support Services
Strategies to Achieve Results (S.T.A.R.)
STAR is a federally-funded intensive support program currently serving 160 students. STAR serves as a centralized location for its participants, assisting them with the necessary tools to be successful. Our mission is to provide support outside of the classroom to assist students in persisting each year towards graduation and/or transfer to a four year college.
Eligibility
To be eligible for services, students must be pursuing a degree full-time at Jefferson, be in need of academic support, and meet the following requirements:
- Be a U.S. Citizen, permanent resident, or naturalized citizen
- And one of the following:
- Be a “first generation” student (neither parent nor guardian has earned a Bachelor’s degree)
- Have a documented disability
- Meet TRiO income guidelines
Services include
- Professional and peer tutoring in English, Reading, and Math
- Academic advising
- Career, transfer, and personal counseling
- Financial aid counseling
- Need-based scholarships
- Study area equipped with computers
- Summer Bridge (new students) Runs beginning of July through mid-August. M-Th, 9am-1pm.
