Jazz Concert Rocks the Theater Dec. 9—Free Admission

Jazz up your holiday season with an unforgettable evening! The Jefferson Community College (JCC) jazz rock ensemble will hold a concert on Thursday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Robert R. and Jean S. Sturtz Theater. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

The jazz rock ensemble is under the direction of Steven B. Lester, adjunct instructor at JCC. Lester, of Sackets Harbor, began teaching at Jefferson in the Fall of 2009. After having served 22 years as a guitarist in the U.S. Army bands, Lester retired from the 10th Mountain Division in 2007. While at Fort Drum, he directed the 18-member jazz ensemble for three years and led a jazz combo in a performance at a private luncheon for then-Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. Lester holds a bachelor’s degree in music performance from Salisbury University, Maryland and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Penn State University.

The concert will feature guest vocalist Ticia Marra of Ticia Marra’s Stage Notes and saxophonist Robert Harvell, retired 10th Mountain Division Band member.

Patrons will be treated to the sounds of jazz legends Duke Ellington, Charlie “Bird” Parker, Keith Jarrett, John Francis Anthony “Jaco” Pastorius III, and more.

The JCC jazz rock ensemble is a credit-bearing humanities course open to all students. The ensemble is comprised of instrumental and vocal talent.

Take a break from routine and treat your family to a rockin’ time!
