21st Annual Higher Education Night at JCC Oct. 4

The Jefferson-Lewis Association for Counseling and Development and Jefferson Community College (JCC) are sponsoring the 21st Annual Higher Education Night on Monday, October 4 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event will be held at the McVean Student Center Gymnasium at JCC, 1220 Coffeen Street, Watertown. Higher Education Night is open to anyone thinking of attending college classes or furthering their education. Admission is free.

Representatives from the Armed Services and from nearly 100 public and private two- and four-year colleges (PDF) from as far away as Maine and Alaska will be available to meet with students and parents. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding admission requirements, degree programs, financial aid, campus life/extracurricular activities, and housing. Additionally, a presentation on financial aid will be held at 5:15–5:45 p.m. and again from 6:30–7:00 p.m. in the Jules Center amphitheater, Room 6-002.

New this year is a workshop entitled “Chart Your Course: Planning a Successful Journey through High School & Beyond.” This workshop will assist military-related or other highly mobile students to maneuver through the intricacies of grades 6–12 and in the selection of their post-secondary education or work choices. Attendees will come away with practical ideas as well as a Chart Your Course interactive DVD, year-by-year roadmap poster, and a DVD-ROM program to assist with college financing and admissions. This workshop is sponsored by the Fort Drum Parent to Parent Program and will take place from 5:45–6:15 p.m. in Jules Center amphitheater, Room 6-002.
