JCC Announces 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipients

The Jefferson Community College Alumni Association has announced the Distinguished Alumni Award recipients for 2010. These awards honor Jefferson alumni who have distinguished themselves through outstanding contributions to one or more areas of society—professional, academic, and community, as well as service to Jefferson Community College.

Tracy L. Leonard, Class of 2006—Rising Star Award

Tracy L. Leonard, Watertown, received an associate of arts degree in humanities and social sciences from Jefferson and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in human development from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oswego. Tracy is currently employed as the pipeline outreach coordinator with the Fort Drum Regional Healthcare Planning Organization.

Steven F. Cumoletti, Class of 1980—Professional Achievement Award

Steven F. Cumoletti, Guilderland, graduated from Jefferson with an associate of science degree in mathematics and science and went on to earn additional degrees from Cornell University and SUNY at Albany. Colonel Cumoletti joined the New York State Police in 1983 and now holds the rank of deputy superintendent in charge of technology and planning.

Nancy M. Robbins, Class of 1977—Distinguished Service Award

Nancy M. Robbins, Sackets Harbor, holds an associate of arts degree in humanities and social sciences from Jefferson. Nancy and her husband, Ronald, have owned and operated Old McDonald’s Farm in Sackets Harbor since 1986. The 1200-acre working crop and dairy farm is a unique educational attraction visited by thousands of children and families each year.

Joel F. LaLone, Class of 1981—Jeffersonian Award

Joel F. LaLone, Watertown, holds an associate of applied science degree in accounting from Jefferson, a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from SUNY Potsdam and a master of science degree in mathematics education from Syracuse University. Joel is a professor of mathematics at Jefferson and serves as the research coordinator for the Center for Community Studies at the College. Joel received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1991.
